Spring is Here

Spring is Here

“The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all.” – Josiyah Martin

Spring is here!  Everyone looks forward to the coming of Spring.  It’s the time for coming out of the dark that winter shadows us with. Sunshine, new growth, warm days with gentle breezy nights, soft cleansing rain showers that bring beautiful colorful rainbows – nature at her finest!

Early recovery is much like this.  Addiction keeps us in a dark and lonely place. Addiction, much like winter, imposes a cold solitude that others cannot penetrate.  It’s a sad place but the only one we can identify as “home” – a strange  comfort but a reality.  We want to get out but cannot see the light to guide us.  We learn to accept, though not deal with, the cold and loneliness.  We wonder if this is it?  Is this all there is?  The longer it continues, the deeper we burrow into the only place we know.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel – recovery!  Recovery is the springtime of the Addiction Cycle.  New growth, sunshine and even some rainy days – signs of life and so much to be grateful for!  Definitely a powerful time in one’s life – rays of hope mixed with rays of sunshine.
